A 6 page contention that the laws that were put in place immediately after the Civil War to guarantee the rights of freed slaves, and those which have been in place since to prevent discrimination, have had a tremendous societal impact. While these laws were justified by the circumstances of the time period in which they were enacted, they now translate into the liability crisis which our businesses, governments, and organizations are facing today when they try to hire or replace employees based on qualifications rather than racial, ethnic, or gender identity. Equality for All?: The Failure of the American Revolution to Obtain Equality for Either African Americans or Women

A 5 page contention that the American Revolution, and indeed the years following that revolution, did little toward changing the inequalities which existed in this country in regard to African Americans and women. Notes that while certain inroads would be made in the years which followed, even the Emancipation Proclamation and the rights of women to vote and own property, accomplished little in terms of achieving true equality.
